Message From the Gathering Committee


The Nêhiyawak Summer Gathering brings together Kapawe’no First Nation, Sucker Creek First Nation, and Whitefish Lake First Nation with a shared purpose: to gather as nêhiyawak, strengthen relationships, support one another, and pass nehiyawawin, teachings, and knowledge to future generations. This gathering reflects who we are as a people and the responsibilities we carry to one another. 


We recognize that our Nations existed long before reserve boundaries and outside colonial government systems. Our histories, families, language, and relationships connect us. Through this gathering, we continue the work of bringing our people together, creating space for Elders, Knowledge Keepers, youth, families, guests, and leadership to learn, share, and renew those connections.

We thank our Elders Knowledge Keepers, leadership, volunteers, staff, sponsors, vendors, cooks, security personnel, first responders, and everyone who contributed to making this amazing gathering possible and great. We welcome you to join us this week at Kapawe’no 230.
