In just days, the people of Kapawe’no First Nation, Sucker Creek First Nation, and Whitefish Lake First Nation will come together at Kapawe’no 230 for the first Nêhiyawak Summer Gathering 2026. This gathering is a place for families, Elders, youth, Knowledge Keepers, singers, dancers, and visitors to reconnect, share stories, hear nēhiyawēwin, and strengthen relationships that reach far beyond reserve boundaries.
Long before roads, maps, and reserve lines, nêhiyawak gathered to renew kinship, share food, teach children, exchange knowledge, and carry forward the laws of the people. The Nêhiyawak Summer Gathering continues that tradition by creating space for generations to come together face to face.
Throughout the gathering, the Sacred Fire will burn continuously as a place of prayer, reflection, and respect. The Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Spiritual Keepers Teepee will provide opportunities for storytelling, teachings, questions, and visiting. Guests will also enjoy cultural demonstrations, hand games, youth activities, family programming, food vendors, and the Kapawe’no Museum.
Evening activities will bring families together with Car Bingo, Movie Night, a community Feast, Round Dance, Closing Ceremony, and Fireworks.
Registered participants will receive three meals each day, and admission is free with a non-perishable food donation. Donations collected during the gathering will support families and community members in need.
RV and tent campers are welcome on-site, with dedicated camping areas and 24-hour security provided by the three host Nations. First Aid services, emergency response personnel, and support from the High Prairie RCMP will help ensure a safe and family-focused event.
The Nêhiyawak Summer Gathering is more than an event. It is a return to language, culture, teachings, and relationships. It is an opportunity for children to learn who they are, for youth to ask questions, for adults to reconnect, and for Elders to share knowledge carried over generations.
The three host Nations welcome everyone to join in a week of culture, community, learning, and connection.
